Susing was married to Josefina Herbano and had the following children.

1. Josephine "Baby" Sumangil-Evangelista
   
2. Julia "Nene" Sumangil
   
3. Jesus "Sonny" Sumangil Jr.
   
4. Joselito "Jong" Sumangil
   
5. Joel Sumangil

Susing, also "Jess" to others, and Josefina, lived a fruitful life. Josefina was the Vice Mayor of Los Banos when she passed away. Susing on the other hand was known as the "Pied Piper of the Philippines" when he was alive.

Susing is a recipient of the 1984 Crop Science Society of the Philippines Achievement Award.

Their children tend to repeat history as Josephine or Baby, is also the Vice Mayor of Los Banos as of this writing. Jong is also a councilman in his Barangay (Anos). This only shows how the family loved to serve their fellows.
