Alicia "Alice" Sumangil - Soberano

Alicia "Alice" Sumangil-Soberano is the youngest child of Cirilo R. Sumangil, Sr. (Apo Padi) and Felisa Palma-Sumangil. Her siblings are Eliseo "Joving", Jose Benjamin, Amparo "Paring", Himaya "Mameng", Angel, Jesus "Susing/Jess", and Cirilo Jr. "Boots".


She was born in Cuyapo, received her primary education there and then moved to Manila to complete her high school and college education at the Philippine Women's University (PWU).

She married Eugenio "Gene" Soberano of Binmaley, Pangasinan and they have three (3) children: Raymund "Ray", Agnes (who died 10 days after birth), and Socorro Felisa "Lisa" Soberano-Bausanta. Her family (except Ray) migrated to the US in the mid-80's.

Alice is an avid culinary practitioner and is known in the community for her cakes and dishes. while in the Philippines, she was a known wedding cake maker; in the US, the Filipino community there loved her Filipino dishes - from the simplest sopas to her embutido, pancit malabon, empanada, menudo, and pot roast. While residing in San Francisco, she was Site Manager for the nutrition program for seniors of the Open Hand Foundation and the Salvation Army.

She spends her time shuttling between Manila and the Bay Area in California with her husband (Gene) for more than 50 years. They have three (3) grandsons - Eugenio Soberano III, Arvin Bausanta, and Ramon Alfonso Soberano.

To these days, Alice remains delighted in cooking, visiting relatives in Cuyapo and Binmaley, and watching ABS-CBN telenovelas.
