Sylvia is the youngest daughter and the 5th child of Apolonio "Polon" Sumangil and Herminia "Immen" Enrico-Sumangil. Her siblings are Trinidad 'Trining" Sumangil-Marquez, Camilo Sumangil (+), Quirino Sumangil, Victoria "Bebe" Sumangil-Capulong, Rogelio "Gil" Sumangil (+) and Danny Sumangil (+).
Sylvia is married to Gallardo "Pedot" Esperanza of Baloy. They have two children namely, Noel "Nonoy" and Mayla.
Sylvia is a retired elementary school teacher at the Baloy Elementary School.
