Roman Sr. left Cuyapo, Nueva Ecija and went to Casantamariaan, San Quintin, Pangasinan before the first world war. That was sometime between 1914-1918. He married Anastacia Pader and were blessed with nine (9) children, namely:

  1. Julian Sumangil

Because of hardship (farm tenant) in Luzon, Roman Sr. and his whole family except one of his daughters, Anastacia Sumangil-Aboy, migrated to the promise land - Cotabato, Mindanao in 1957 during the presidency of Ramon Magsaysay where they were granted a parcel of land for livelihood.

In 1973, during the height of the muslim and christian conflicts in Mindanao, many families were displaced including his family. This turn of events did not spare the families of his sons Elueterio, and Remegio who transferred to a safer place in Dujali, Davao del Norte and settled there to this day. Roman and his other children chose to stay in Cotabato up to this time.

Many of his descendants are now professionals: teachers, engineers, doctor, nurses, accountants, agriculturists, bank and government employees, and soldiers.

Based on the details related by Leonardo dela Cruz Sumangil (son of Pedro Sumangil) and Capt. Ali Sumangil
