Photo courtesy of Hernando Sumangil II Hernando Sr., fondly known as "Nando" is the grandson of Cirilo Sumangil Sr. also known as Apo Padi , an aglipayan priest. For a year, Nando's family stayed in the house of Apo Padi in Cuyapo Nueva Ecija, also known as kumbento in 1948 until they moved to Manila in 1949. His father is Eliseo "Joven" Sumangil who is brother to Jose, Angel, Jesus "Susing", Cirilo Jr., Amparo, Himaya and Alicia. Cornelio "Onnie" (in Dallas Texas) is Nando's oldest brother. His younger brother Augusto is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota while his youngest sister Mildred Sumangil-Mata is also based in San Diego, California.  Nando was married to Linda and have two (2) children namely Maritess Sumangil-Teng and Hernando "Dindo" Sumangil II.  In 1958 when he was 17, he was one of the finalists in the Jr. Mr. Philippines Contest. He also had a taste of showbiz during his younger years.He was once a Manila policeman during the '60s for 17 years with Mayor Alfredo Lim as his precinct commander.
