Amparo was one of the children of Cirilo "Apo Padi" Sumangil Sr. She was a dear sister to Himaya Carmen "Mameng" Sumangil-Aurelio, Cirilo Sumangil Jr., Eliseo "Joving" Sumangil, Alicia "Alice" Sumangil-Soberano, Jesus "Susing" Sumangil, Jose Sumangil, and Angel Sumangil.
She was the devoted mother of Sonia Sumangil Flores -Tracy and Rodolfo Sumangil Flores.
Amparo graduated at the Philippine Women's University and worked as a medical transcriber in the business office of Mercy Hospital in San Diego, California. She was also a member of the PAUW, USA and Cuyapo Association.
She passed away on March 30, 2002 at the age of 87.
