Leonardo is the oldest son of Pedro Sumangil (son of Roman Sumangil Sr. who is the son of Saturnino Sumangil). Born in San Quintin, Pangasinan, is the eldest brother of Arturo, Dante, Zaldy, Pedro Jr. Alfredo, Amado and Rommel.
"Nanding", as he is fondly called, is a retired medical representative of Pfizer, Philippines. He is married to Neneng Elsie, a retired bank (BPI) employee and have four (4) children namely Jessey Albert, Ian Marc, Leonardo Sumangil Jr. and Jamie Shayne.
They are now based in Alamada, Cotabato.
