Tito is married to Becky Nacionales-Sumangil. They are the parents of Anne Sumangil and Eric "Pogi" Sumangil, a playwright,  movie and theater actor.

In 1969, Tito noticed  that the history portrayed on the plaque commemorating the “Spanish-American War” installed in the Minnesota State Capitol Rotunda does not accurately represent the Filipino perspective of the war. He  approached  the Minnesota Historical Society to propose a dialogue among humanities experts that would analyze the different interpretations of the conflict. No action was taken, not until February 4, 2002 when the corrective plaque is installed, on the 103rd anniversary of the outbreak of the Philippine-American War.

He researched and wrote How the Philippines Became the First Colony of the United States which was published  in 1976.

Tito was a former CFO of a medical group in Minnesota.   His family is  now based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
